North Carolina State Bar Website Redesign

The North Carolina State Bar (NCSB), based in Raleigh, North Carolina, is the state agency which regulates the practice of law. The NCSB published a request for proposal (RFP) when they were looking to take their existing websites that were programmed using HTML, ASP, and CSS and move them into a user-friendly content management system (CMS), specifically Umbraco. The goal was to improve their internal processes for making modifications, content additions, and edits to their 6 existing websites. The NCSB was also looking for a vendor that had extensive experience with both Umbraco and Microsoft SQL Server, as the project tasks included developing .NET searches that pull data directly from NCSB’s existing SQL Server databases.

In addition to the redevelopment tasks that were part of this project, Marathon completely redesigned each of the 6 websites, including improved sitemaps and user flows. Migrating an extensive amount of content was also a key component of the project. Marathon worked with the NCSB to design a custom look and feel for their main website and implemented a reusable template for each of their subsidiary websites. This approach saved the NCSB considerable time and money. It also eased their internal process throughout the project.

Marathon also worked directly with NCSB’s internal IT team on a number of tasks that were handled internally, providing assistance with re-launching the newly-developed websites on their internal servers. All the new websites are managed from the Umbraco CMS. Marathon’s project management methodology and approach to the project, which ensured that the NCSB’s needs were met, clearly set Marathon’s proposal apart from other vendors. The project was completed successfully on time and on budget.
