Virginia Beach, Virginia, March 27, 2011
Marathon Consulting hosted the Third Annual "Walk/Run to Remember" fundraising event. Marathon served as the Host Sponsor for the event to benefit the Southeastern Virginia Alzheimer’s Association.
Despite a chilly drizzle and 25-mile-per-hour winds, the event was well supported by numerous community members, drawing over 40 participants and 30 volunteers.
Miss Lizzie Cornell, a member of the Princess Anne High School Cross Country team, took the lead on both the organization and promotion of the event by forming the "R2R Club"
last year. Members of the Club were on hand to provide support to the runners. They could be seen registering participants, handing out donuts and coffee, and doing everything they
could to create an energetic and warm atmosphere.
Mr. Gino Colombara, Executive Director of the Southeastern Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, commented on the positive aspects of such a youthful sponsoring body, saying
"Lizzie and the R2R Club have done a great job organizing the event. They’ve provided a great service by making the next generation knowledgeable about this tragic disease."
