Marathon Gives Back
Many of the employees and all of the owners of Marathon Consulting are long time members of the Hampton Roads community. Marathon places a
special emphasis on our team’s ability to work in an environment that balances family life with the challenges of our "business" lives. Therefore,
Marathon is committed to the support of several local charities. That support comes in the form of cash donations as well as offering our employees’
family members an opportunity to participate in various events. Over time, Marathon has been proud to support such organizations as the ones listed below.
JT Walk & Beach Party
Josh Thompson was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease in late 2006. An avid surfer, Josh and his family turned their attention from surfing to a frustrating fight battling ALS. Josh and his family have converted their frustration to a massive mobilization for the search for ALS treatments and eventually a cure
Josh and his family, along with the Virginia Gentlemen Foundation, founded the JT Walk & Beach Party. The walk is the largest single day walk and fundraiser for the National ALS Foundation. It has raised over $3 million to date for ALS patient services and stem cell research for neurological disorders. The event has also help to fund the creation of JT's Grommet Island Beach Park & Playground for EveryBODY. This park is an accessible beach playground and park for disabled children and adults.
CHKD - Run Walk For the Kids
The RunWalk for the Kids is a community-wide project designed to encourage exercise and
healthy lifestyles in families and children. The event is a project of The King's Daughters to benefit Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.
Each year, CHKD provides
high-quality medical care to more than 250,000 local children. CHKD's experts are concerned with the alarming rates of childhood obesity in this community. Lack of exercise
plays a big role in childhood obesity, but the RunWalk for the Kids can help in two ways. First, all the funds raised by the event will go to support CHKD and its special programs
for children. Secondly, children and families are encouraged to participate in the RunWalk together.
