Web Applications demand more rigor in design and include more functional components than a static website. Access
needs to be tightly controlled, entered data must be edited to prevent corruption of the client database(s),
performance requirements must be considered and the design must meet them, steps to maintain database integrity
during all phases of operation must be included, and finally, a complex Web Application might need to incorporated
several different technical components that are invisible to the user and not present in most static websites.
These characteristics require a development team that can bring broad experience to the project so that “Best
Practices” can be employed. It requires discipline to deploy only “tried and true”, proven methodologies, and
resist the use of the “next great thing”, until it has a solid track record. Most organizations can not afford to
